FREE Kindermusik with Seniors Class

Looking for an intergenerational musical opportunity?  Join us for our free Kindermusik with Seniors class, offered monthly at the IOOF Home in Barrie! We are inviting any families with children ages birth to 7 years to attend a free demonstration class at this program.   Seniors attending the program participate in activities with the children.   It is a heart-warming experience for all involved!

We are grateful for the opportunity to once more participate in this type of program.  One of the staff members is a Kindermusik parent alumni.  Alison has participated in similar programs in the past in a number of long-term care facilities in Barrie, both as demonstration classes and as complete “Village with Seniors” programs.

Directions to VON Adult Day Program:  From the Allandale Rec Centre, take Bayview north to Baldwin (partway down the hill).  Left on Baldwin, the IOOF home will be on your right within about a block. Turn right into parking lot.    There are 2 buildings, joined by a glass walking bridge.  Go in the doors under the bridge where there is a sign for the VON Adult Day Program.  Ring the door buzzer and they will let you in.

Here is what one of our Kindermusik parents had to say about the experience:

“I wasn't sure what to expect when I decided to take my 8 month old daughter to the VON Adult Day Program at the IOOF, but we lived within walking distance so I thought we might as well attend. When we walked in we were greeted with so many friendly faces. There was so much love in the room. We started the music and before I knew it there was a lady on all fours crawling toward my daughter. My daughter seemed to be quite engaged by this lady and turned away from the group and headed toward her. The two interacted briefly but it was all this lady needed to bring a smile to her face for the rest of the day. Throughout the 45 minute class there were so many meaningful exchanges between the children and the seniors. It was a delight to watch. I know this class was enjoyable to both my young daughter as well as those seniors in attendance. We have so much to learn from our elders. This was a great opportunity to enjoy their company through music and dance. “ - Vanessa
